Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore nurture and sustain the God-given gifts of every person, especially students, to be used in service to the Mission of Jesus.

Archdiocese of Baltimore Mission Statement

Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore provide a Christ-centered education that is academically excellent and empowers students to reach their full potential –spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially, and morally. Fostered through robust collaboration among all stakeholders, the mission is accomplished through accountable leadership at all levels, ongoing and coordinated strategic planning, centralized efficiencies, and financial sustainability.

SJA Mission Statement

"To educate as Jesus did, encouraging each student to reach full spiritual, intellectual, and social potential for tomorrow's challenges"

There is a place for you at St. Joan of Arc School! Our mission statement says it all: "Jesus invites, St. Joan of Arc welcomes".  In our daily teaching we affirm the gospel values of faith, respect, love, friendship, and service.  We educate with the premise that these same values empower each student to be accepting of self and of the individuality of all persons.

At St. Joan of Arc School, we foster an academic environment that develops independent thinking, effective group interaction, and the integration of technology for research and communication. Aware of the great diversity of learners, we utilize differentiated instruction techniques to best meet the need of each student and help him / her to be successful. We foster a social environment that accepts and celebrates differences, problem solves conflicts, and develops friendships.

In all of our relationships, the community of St. Joan of Arc School seeks to educate as Jesus did, encouraging each student to reach full spiritual, intellectual, and social potential for today's and tomorrow's challenges.

The mission of St Joan of Arc School is to create a vibrant 21st Century learning environment that infuses a rigorous, integrated, STEM-based curriculum with the richness of our Catholic faith tradition. We collaborate with our SJA Professional Learning Communities, the Archdiocese of Baltimore, parents and regional area partnerships to create:
  • SJA teachers and staff who as lifelong faith-filled learners, model and incorporate rigorous, integrated, curricular collaboration of STEM problem-solving and project-based learning through real world experiences.
  • SJA students who engage, investigate, and apply critical thinking and creativity in a morally responsible exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics that is integrated with Humanities.
  • SJA parents and guardians who enrich STEM learning by sharing career, project, and after school club experiences. Students will expand interest in STEM careers and further appreciate their God-given talents for the good of the global community.
  • SJA business and academic communities, who in conjunction with school leadership, actively participate in assisting teachers and students through meaningful relationships to advance STEM learning opportunities, and provide for a well-rounded work force for the future.

Philosophy

St. Joan of Arc School embraces the statement, "Jesus invites, St. Joan of Arc Welcomes." We affirm in our daily teaching the gospel values of faith, truth, and charity. We educate with the premise that these same values empower each student to be accepting of self and the individuality of all persons.

We acknowledge the primary right of parents to educate their children and we accept the solemn responsibility as partners in this endeavor. St Joan of Arc School recognizes and utilizes the available resources offered within the ministry of parish, parents, teachers and civic community to instill in our children an awareness of community at large and the importance of stewardship in our lives.

We strive for the mastery of basic skills while fostering an academic environment that helps to develop independent thinking skills, effective group interaction, and the implementation of technology for research and communication. Aware of the hierarchy of thinking skills, we move our students toward integrating these levels of critical thinking in their academic and social experiences.

Students are encouraged to be caring and mutually supportive of each other, and to be empathetic in their daily interactions with classmates. Students are taught to deal with conflicts in a constructive manner and embrace differences as something to be celebrated.

The administration, teachers, and staff of St. Joan of Arc School pride themselves in being able to provide a nurturing workplace which incorporates an atmosphere conducive to positive interaction, mentoring, and affirming the strengths of their fellow educators. Opportunities for fellowship and professional sharing exist during faculty and Professional Learning Communities meetings and planned extracurricular activities.
