Congratulation SJA Alumni Melissa Smith and Katie Stump

 

Melissa Smith and Katie Stump were honored Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Level Fire Company for ranking in the top 5 of their graduating senior class.  Melissa is graduating from the Science and Math Academy at Aberdeen and attending West Virginia University, majoring in Mathematics in their honors program.  Katie is graduating from Havre de Grace High School and attending Virginia Tech, majoring in Environmental Science, also in their honors program.

Alumni Melanie Rae Graduates from Institute of Notre Dame

Melanie Rae., class of 2004, has been very busy since leave SJA.  She graduated from Institute of Notre Dmelanie_002.jpgame (IND) in May. While at IND, Melanie was involved in a lot of activities. She was involved with the Stage Guild, Needlework Club, Ambassador Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Hildie's Helpers (Sister Hilda's community service projects) and Girl Scouts.

    

In addition to her extracurricular activities, Melanie was part of the Notre Dame's Theresian Scholars Program. This honors program requires students to achieve the standard graduation requirements, study one year of Latin, three years of modern foreign language and at least 20 academic credits at the honors level. They must complete and present a independent research project. Melanie's project was "Feeding in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unity".

    

Melanie participated in the 2007-08 Bond to Bond Program, a career development and youth mentoring program with Johns Hopkins Medicine. This program is for students who plan to pursue medical career. 

    

Melanie's hard work has truly been recognized. She was awarded The Gold Award on the National Latin Exam, at Graduation, she received the Math Award, Latin Award, Science Award, Theatre Award for technical side of productions, Gold Honor Roll every semester. Melanie was also awarded the Archdiocese's Distinguished Scholar which is awarded to the top three students at each high school in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. She also served as the co-valedictorian of her graduating class.  Melanie was offered numerous scholarships including the Distinguished Scholar Scholarship from the State of Maryland.

 

Melanie is a Pre-Occupational Therapy student at Towson University. The program is a combined M.S./B.S. program.

    

Some of Melanie's best memories at SJA are giving the student perspective speech at the 50th anniversary Mass and graduation speech, assembly the literary magazine with Mrs. Sampson, helping Mrs. Vernon before and after school, talking with Mr. Danny after school and Buddy Days.
