Welcome to February!
Religion
This month we will review the importance of the Sacrament of the Eucharist for our lives. We will pray the Eucharistic Prayer and understand that in the celebration of the Eucharist, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ.
We will learn about the different feasts and seasons of the liturgical year.
We will also study the Lord's Prayer. If we want to pray as Jesus taught us, we need to understand what he meant by the words he gave us.
In Family Life, we will discuss how the moods of family members can affect others in the family. We will also learn the importance of honesty and respect in good communication. The students will be guided to a deeper understanding of prayer as communication with God.
"Pray always, pray everywhere. Give thanks to God always, give thanks to him everywhere."
Ephesians 6:18; 5:20

Math
We have been having fun with fractions.
So far we have added fractions with like and unlike denominators. Next we will subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators. Then we will multiply and divide fractions. As we wrap up the fraction unit we will apply fractions to real-life connections.
The students are realizing the better you know your facts the easier it is to find common denominators and to simplify fractions.
Science
As we continue our physical science unit, we will study the periodic table. The students will pick an element from the table and create a "Wanted" poster. The poster will include the atomic number, symbol, chemical state, uses, characteristics and interesting facts. Students will work in pairs on this class project.
We will find out what makes up a molecule. We will explore how compounds are different from elements. We will learn how scientists have created new types of materials by combining atoms and molecules in different ways. We will demonstrate this by creating our own new material by making an example of a polymer.
The Science fair date has been changed to March 29th and 30th. The exhibits will be brought to school on the 29th and formal presentations will take place on the 30th. At this point in time, students should know their topic and have started finding research and recording information into their diary. They also need to keep a list of their resources for when they complete their bibliography.
