Welcome to March
Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone! Unfortunately, we had to cancel our 5th grade field trip to Ford's Theater on February the 11th. Currently, we are working on securing your refund. We are planning an alternative trip to culminate our 5th grade Patriot Program study of the Civil War. More information will be coming soon. The 4th grade will be going to Historic St. Mary's City in April. More information is on the way.
Academic News
Fourth grade students are reading a true story about survival entitled, The Island of the Blue Dolphins. They will be studying some of the Native American myths and legends and create a spirit animal totem. In Social Studies students have begun their study of the Age of Exploration. They have formed explorer groups who will work cooperatively to plan an expedition to Cathay. They are researching the factors in the Medieval Ages that discouraged exploration and creating a reproduction of Ptolemy's Map of the World.
In Religion students are completing their Holy Spirit Atlas. Students are recognizing the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they have affected their lives in the past and how they will be a blessing in the future.
In their study of the American Revolution fifth graders are getting ready to recreate the trial of Private Hugh White. They have prepared both cases for the prosecution and the defense of the accused. Students have sent their delegates to the first Continental Congress with instructions on what to propose about the siege of Boston. They will create a battle plan with maps and instructions for General Washington.

The boy's middle school basketball team won the Harford/Baltimore County Private/Parochial Championship in their inaugural season. The Knights opened tournament play with a 43-18 victory over St. Paul's. They defeated their rival St. John's 32-22. The game was a barn burner with the Knights leading by just 1 point midway through the 4th quarter. The Knights defeated St. Stephen's 32 to 18 in the championship tilt. Congratulations!

Patriot Program News
The fifth graders have been given an extension on their Civil War narrative timelines. They are due on Monday, March the 8th. Students should begin to memorize the poem, "Captain, My Captain, as their last leg of the Patriot Program. We will begin to practice our play entitled a Tribute to Lincoln this week. The performance is scheduled for the third week in May. |
