Welcome to Third Grade! Third grade is a transition between primary and intermediate. It is a great transition from the development of skills to the development of independence. It is a time for students to begin to assume responsibility for their education and become life-long learners.
In Third Grade we will be studying and working on many new and exciting things this year. We will focus on mastering our addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts in math. We will work on different forms of writing like narratives, expository, and persuasive essays in English. We will master our cursive handwriting. We will focus on different types of communities in Religion. In science we learn about habitats, matter, and the human body. In social studies we will learn about geography and different types of communities around the world.
Third graders are to be responsible for keeping track of their homework every night, writing it down in their homework tablets, taking the right books home, and completing it with less help from parents. Homework should only take about 30 minutes a night.
I am looking forward to an exciting year, watching my students grow in their knowledge and independence. 3rd Grade Schedule Donna Vernon 2008 - 2009
