Welcome to Third Grade
Welcome to Third Grade! This year is a transition between
primary and intermediate. It is a wonderful evolution from the development of
skills to the development of independence. It is a time for students to start
taking responsibility for their education.
This is just the beginning of becoming life-long learners.
In Third Grade, we will be studying and working on many new
and exciting things. We will focus on mastering our addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division facts in Math. We will work on different forms of
writing in English, along with improving our cursive skills. In Science, we learn about habitats, matter,
and the human body. In Social Studies, we will learn about geography and
different types of communities around the world. As you may know, we have become a STEM
school. STEM stands for Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math. Each of the grades
will be looking at these subjects through grade level appropriate projects,
questioning, research, application and thinking in new ways. We will be doing many projects that integrate
all of the subjects in order to improve critical thinking.
Third graders are responsible for keeping track of their
homework every night, writing it down in their homework planners, taking the
right books home, and completing it with less help from parents. Homework
should only take about 30 minutes a night.
Welcome and be prepared to have some fun!
