Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a restful relaxing break!  Thank you for all the wonderful gifts and card to Target!  I've enjoyed them all!  You treat me very well and I appreciate that. 

Math -We have started double digit addition with regrouping.  We will learn how and when to regroup the ones to the tens.  We will then learn how to do the same with double digit subtraction!  Please keep practicing the basic facts so your child is quick and accurate.

Reading - We will continue to work on fluency and accuracy in reading.  We will do more readers theaters as well as our usual stories.  We will focus on inference and cause and effect skills.  We will continue with phonics blends as well as r controlled vowels and y as a vowel.  The children love "performing" the readers' theaters for other classes and have gotten very good at it.  They are reading so much better and we will continue that forward progress!  Keep reading at home.  It is good practice to read the same thing many times as they get better with comprehension and reading accuracy when they do this.

Social Studies - We will be studying Japan this month in preparation for our Cultural Day at the end of the month!  We will learn a song in Japanese as well as counting, the colors and the culture. We will make some "crafts" that are common in Japan, such as origami and fans.  I'm excited that we have a parent who has been to Japan and has offered to share some authentic things from  Japan!  More information about Cultural Day will be coming.

Language Arts - We will continue learning about cursive writing and have learned quite a few already.  They do very well with the practice.  Spelling will continue with spelling rules such as long a and e spellings.  Keep up the good work on the Tic Tac Toe homework!
